The Ten Second Clock of the Democratic Party

Miers Withdraws

This is the only sensible thing that's happened since she was nominated. We don't get many "do-overs" in life, Mr. President. So let's "do-it-over" better, shall we? Some really tepid B.S. from the article: Under withering attack from conservatives, President...
Delay the Alito Hearings Until 2045

Obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. It's the Democratic way. Senate Democrats pushed on Tuesday for a 2006 date for hearings on Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, challenging President Bush's call for confirmation by year's end. "There's no way you can do an...
"Scalito"

A bio of Samuel Alito, the man I mentioned earlier as moving hot on Tradesports this morning. Sounds like there's lots of things to recommend Judge Alito. Nicknamed "Scalito" for views resembling those of conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia,...
"Sloppy Seconds"

From Drudge: CBSNEWS Chief White House correspondent John Roberts described the President?s selection of Judge Samuel Alito as ?sloppy seconds? during today?s press gaggle with White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan. John Roberts: ?So, Scott, you said that -- or...
Schuldt stuck on himself

Just like Bill Clinton, Chad Schuldt is stuck on himself. After receiving his spanking this morning, all he can do is feel sorry and talk about himself:Why is it that Steve Sibson, accountant at Toshiba in Mitchell, seems to have...
Daschle Still Obstructs the Senate!

Like Dracula in those old Hammer Horror films, Count Daschle reaches out from the political grave to constipate the Senate yet again. This from the Washington Post:It took Democrats about five seconds to trigger the parliamentary move that forced the...
Initial Johnson Position on Alito

Sen. Johnson says it?s too early to judge Alito

South Dakota Sen. Tim Johnson talked to Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito about ?a whole range of constitutional issues? Tuesday, though he says it is too early to draw any conclusions about the veteran judge.
Johnson said it would be ?some time? before he makes a decision about the conservative nominee, who already faces opposition from several liberal groups and abortion-rights supporters.

OK. Not too bad for this stage of things.

Later, in a conference call with reporters, Johnson said he hoped the hearing process would move quickly but be thorough.

Still sounds reasonable, eh? But wait...

He said he would not rule out a filibuster from his party. ?I would leave all those options on the table,? he said.

After all this, the Chief forms a mental image of Senator Tim carefully holding a moist finger up to check the wind direction before he says anything definite.

The Chief's projection on this: if it looks inevitable that Alito will win the "advice and consent" of the Senate, TJ will probably be released to support him. Otherwise, he'll probably say NYET!

But hey! What do I know, really?

Libby Pleads Not Guilty

Scooter has entered a plea of not guilty. Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff pleaded not guilty Thursday in the CIA leak scandal, marking the start of what could be a long road to a trial in which...
