Miers, the next Souter?

From John Fund: Another reason for conservative suspicion is that it was Mr. Card, a former moderate Massachusetts state legislator, who pushed the Miers choice. This is something that Andy and the president cooked up, a White House adviser told...
The Cheeseburger Bill

Fat people might not be able to bankrupt eateries in the future: The Republican-controlled House voted Wednesday to shield fast-food chains from lawsuits that blame them for making people fat. Nicknamed the "cheeseburger bill," the measure stems from lawsuits accusing...

The Baseball Body Blow

I still can't get last night's NLCS game out of my mind. Albert Pujols inflicted more damage on the Houston baseball psyche than the law ought to allow. The sound of that stadium when that bomb he hit ricocheted off...
Joe Girardi

Joe Girardi has agreed in principle to become the next manager of the Florida Marlins, exiting his role as the Yankee bench coach. Details of the contract will be finalized tonight. Funny Joe Girardi story. In about 1993 or 1994,...

SCOTUS Nomination Re-opens

Miers Withdraws Under Mounting Criticism

By the time this has happened, there was a certain inevitability to it. As the Chief was driving into work this AM, thoughts that Miers didn't have very long to go before she withdrew her name were answered by a news update that this in fact had happened.

Now maybe we can get down to basics - if the President goes back to the base and appoints an unashamed originalist conservative, he will be pleasantly surprised at the strength and depth of his base support.

As fas as the inevitable rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth, Donk opposition is concerned, bring 'em on - the GOP DOES have a Senate majority - and needs to use it - including the Constitutional (or so-called nuclear) option.
