Spurning America

Here's an excerpt from Michael Barone:Army Special Forces Soldiers, as my U.S. News colleague Linda Robinson writes in her riveting book, Masters of Chaos, are very much aware of the tradition of their military history. On the eve of a...
Powerball

The current estimated Powerball lotter jackpot is $340 million dollars, with a cash value of about $164 million. It could very well be more by tonight's drawing. Don't think that I couldn't find a couple of dollars in the cupholder...

The Saddam Trial

The AP has an incredible story about the televised Saddam trial in Iraq. It's striking the different ways people choose to remember Hussein:The moment Saddam Hussein appeared, a Shiite housewife spat on the screen and then sat gnawing her fingers,...
Sheehan v. Clinton

Cindy Sheehan is back in the news:Cindy Sheehan, the so-called peace mom on a crusade to end U.S. involvement in the Iraq war, is publicly blasting Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., for her continued support of the ongoing conflict. I think...
Sibby disagrees with Limbaugh

Here is an interesting exchange Rush Limbaugh had with a caller yesterday: CALLER: I just wanted to point out I've been a longtime Bush supporter, and when he gives a speech like he did this morning it makes me feel...
Cards Lose Shot at Series (sigh)

Cards' season ends with Game 6 loss in NLCS

Well, I suppose it's back to blogging as usual now that the Cardinals are out of the post-season. Congrats to Houston, I guess - they obviously were pumped for the playoffs, and played better at least in the post-season.

The Chief thinks it would have been better if they had a better sustained record over the season - but that's the breaks of the way the system is organized.

What leaves a bad taste also is the clearly visible (on TV) bad call by the umpire in the thrid inning that took the steam out of a Cardinals offensive move. Again, unfortunately, that's part of the game too.

Busch Stadium.jpg

This was the final game in the present Busch Stadium (the new one will be the 3rd Busch Stadium!). Also it's the end of the Cardinals on KMOX radio. The relatively puny new station's signal can't make it to South Dakota, so maybe it's time to look at XM Satellite Radio or something.

"...there was no joy in Mudville.
Mighty Casey had struck out."

Go White Sox!
