Ok, Now I'm worried

The Minneapolis Star Tribune has endorsed the confirmation of John Roberts to replace William Rehnquist. This week's Senate Judiciary Committee hearings have been fascinating on several fronts, not the least for their jab-and-parry-exchanges between senators and Supreme Court nominee John Roberts....
Jumpers vs. Drowners

Methinks that Instapundit is right on the money: THE PRESS WANTS TO SHOW BODIES from Katrina. It didn't want to show bodies, or jumpers, on 9/11, for fear that doing so would inflame the public. I can only conclude that...
Oliphant's slander

UK U's Urged to Rat Out Radicals

Universities urged to root out extremism

Universities must root out extremism on campus as part of the war on terror, Ruth Kelly, Education Secretary will say in a speech.

Here's a radical new idea from across the pond: universities to actively monitor and crack down on extreme radicalism in order to help in the terror war.

Ms Kelly is expected to tell the organisation's annual conference: "Higher education institutions need to identify and confront unacceptable behaviour on their premises and within their community. "They should be alert and be unafraid to set their own boundaries - within the law and with the law in support - in consultation with their own community and the wider community. "That means informing the police where criminal offences are being perpetrated or where there may be concerns about possible criminal acts.

What a concept. Sound to me like she gets it.

God and the U.S. Coast Guard

The question whether or in what form New Orleans will reemerge from the deluge probably depends mostly on which and how many of its former residents decide to return. The Big Easy was easily one of the most dysfunctional cities...
Pork Fat: It's What's For Dinner

Via Insty, we see that the Cato Institute has identified a potential $62 billion worth of pork that could be cut to help refinance Katrina reconstruction. Wouldn't it be fantastic to do a smash-up job of rebuilding the Gulf as...
Abe's Short Takes

Two of Abe's quick points: 1) The coverage of Hurricane Ophelia hit an old sore spot with me. What's the point of having the TV reporter out in the hurricane? I know TV wants visuals above all else, but this...
This guy has balls

Denns Prager writes a column that really hits the feminist movemetn between the eyeballs. Here is the introduction:As a result of the repudiation of Judeo-Christian values, we are witnessing the ascendance of the feminine in Western society. There are two...
