What I've Learned Watching the Roberts Confirmation Hearings

One simple thing, really: Joe-Joe Biden loves him some TV camera time. And that's understated, perhaps. Biden, Leahy, and Chuck Schumer. Does it get any better than that? I caught some of the hearing off and on yesterday, and have...

"Many liberal voters in South Dakota are now considering a boycott of Herseth"

Letter in today's Argus Leader:Herseth voting record Published: 09/12/05 It's annoying to see letters promoting Rep. Stephanie Herseth's work in Congress. What's interesting about her sales angle is the notion that Herseth works well with Republicans. Many liberal voters have...
Gorgeous George vs. Hitch

Since I have absolutely nothing better to do (saddlebronc riding, jumping jacks are out of the question) on Saturday, I'm planning on watching C-SPAN's broadcast of the Hitchens-Galloway "debate." If you want a text-only run-down before catching Hitch and Galloway...
Dahlia Lithwick Metaphor Watch

Nothing is quite so diverting as to watch people like Dahlia Lithwickat Slate vent their displeasure with Senate Democrats. But look at the metaphors she comes up with. John Roberts is putting on a clinic. He completely understands that he...
UK U's Urged to Rat Out Radicals

Universities urged to root out extremism

Universities must root out extremism on campus as part of the war on terror, Ruth Kelly, Education Secretary will say in a speech.

Here's a radical new idea from across the pond: universities to actively monitor and crack down on extreme radicalism in order to help in the terror war.

Ms Kelly is expected to tell the organisation's annual conference: "Higher education institutions need to identify and confront unacceptable behaviour on their premises and within their community. "They should be alert and be unafraid to set their own boundaries - within the law and with the law in support - in consultation with their own community and the wider community. "That means informing the police where criminal offences are being perpetrated or where there may be concerns about possible criminal acts.

What a concept. Sound to me like she gets it.

Nebraska: The Good Life

I'm back home in Nebraska, still a good bit sore and getting a little touch of the ol' cabin fever, but on the mend. I'd like to thank all of my fellow bloggers and readers who stopped by to leave...
