Blame Federalism

Kaus has it about right: Sure, the Bushies are using the federalism issue, and Louisiana's potentially bruised feelings, as an excuse--especially when they talk about how "it would have been perceived" if Bush had seized control of the relief effort...
Vince Young For Heisman

An Ohio State linebacker said that the Buckeye goal was to make sure that Texas QB Vince Young didn't leave as a Heisman candidate. Whoops. Heisman candidacy status: Intact. At any rate, it certainly wasn't Young's best night. 2 INT's,...
9/11 Anniversary Not Marked At Casa McClaren

It's the fourth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Other, better bloggers are marking the occasion, so you don't need me to do it for you. And do you want to know something? I'm letting the whole commemoration pass. Frankly,...
Rove Going to North Dakota

This is from The Hill: White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove is planning to travel to North Dakota later this month to rally GOP activists and, Republicans hope, persuade Gov. John Hoeven (R) to challenge Sen. Kent Conrad...
BRAC Report Goes to President

Base-closure panel finds overestimation of savings

The final Base Re-alignment and Closing Commission report has been sent to the President. The final version notably maintains Ellsworth AFB of South Dakota as a going concern. Hopefully, the report is accepted.

With its five months of work complete, the Base Realignment and Closure Commission voiced its concerns even as it approved roughly 86 percent of what Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld recommended as he sought to save money by getting rid of extra space in the domestic military network. That's on par with previous years, when commissions changed only about 15 percent of what the Pentagon proposed.
Bush Picks Roberts

John Roberts will be up for Chief Justice. This was a move widely expected in the last 24 hours. Todd Zywixki over at Volokh wonders what the status of Sandra Day O'Connor is. It's a good question....

This from Robert Scheer, the LATimes version Paul Krugman. Instead of the much-celebrated American can-do machine that promises to bring freedom and prosperity to less fortunate people abroad, we have seen a callous official incompetence that puts even Third World...
Jumpers vs. Drowners

Methinks that Instapundit is right on the money: THE PRESS WANTS TO SHOW BODIES from Katrina. It didn't want to show bodies, or jumpers, on 9/11, for fear that doing so would inflame the public. I can only conclude that...
