Katrina Relief Efforts Compared to Past Hurricaines

In Katrina's Wake

David Brooks and Ruben Navarrette have different takes on the government's response on all levels to hurricane Katrina. Not surprisingly I find myself siding with Brooks. Brooks argues: Katrina was the most anticipated natural disaster in American history, and still...

Leaving the Donks' Plantation Politics Behind:

Blacks fault lack of local leadership

Some in the black community are beginning to question what happened to the black leadership during the Hurricane Katrina disaster, especially in the city of New Orleans.

The Donks' old lock-step loyalty is getting frayed in the face of some unpleasant doses of reality ignoring party affiliation.

"Mayor Nagin has blamed everyone else except himself," said the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, founder and president of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny. "The mayor failed in his duty to evacuate and protect the people of New Orleans. ... The truth is, black people died not because of President Bush or racism, they died because of their unhealthy dependence on the government and the incompetence of Mayor Ray Nagin and Governor Kathleen Blanco," he said...."If black folks want to blame someone for this tragedy, they only need to look in the mirror. Hopefully, this will help black people realize the folly of depending on the government or leaders and serve as a notice to avert future tragedies in other cities," he said.

A light in the forest! But speaking of other cities, note the post next to this one, about Long Beach: the hits just keep on coming!

The New Cronyism (Or Not): Shaw Group Headed By Chairman of Louisiana Democratic Party

Oh, that liberal media. You'd think that the oh-so-earnest Reuters could do a bit better than this: At least two major corporate clients of lobbyist Joe Allbaugh, President Bush's former campaign manager and a former head of the Federal Emergency...
Rove Going to North Dakota

This is from The Hill: White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove is planning to travel to North Dakota later this month to rally GOP activists and, Republicans hope, persuade Gov. John Hoeven (R) to challenge Sen. Kent Conrad...

The Times and the Flood

Many would like you to believe that George Bush and our Congress were content with throwing the city of New Orleans to the wolves by cutting funding for flood control. Or maybe Congress was just listening to the New York...
