A piece of what for McGovern?

Educator working on Nobel Peace Prize nomination for McGovern+

Of note in this morning's Argus LeaderLoser:

A Florida professor is trying to get politicians, scholars and others to write letters that will help him with the paperwork to nominate former Sen. George McGovern for the Nobel Peace Prize. "He had always been one of my heroes," Robert Watson, a political science professor at Florida Atlantic University, said of McGovern, a three-term senator from South Dakota who was the Democratic Party's 1972 presidential nominee. "I can't think of a more compelling or deserving public figure for the causes of peace and alleviating world hunger than George McGovern."

The article continues with the expression of more such sentiments. The only question that occurs to the Chief is WHAT DID HE ACCOMPLISH? Anything specific at all? Anything except opposing Nixon and the Viet-nam war?

As far as that is concerned, even if the anti-war activism of the day was influential in causing the US to abandon aid to South Viet-nam, thereby enabling the Commie victory (thus ending the war), the "peace" that resulted in South Viet-nam, and even more so, Cambodia, had a greater resemblence to Auschwitz in terms of death than it did to anything most rational people would consider to be true peace....unless...it's just OK for Communists to do this sort of thing, since they're on the political left.

Nobel Peace Prize? The Chief would hope not...but given the state of Euro moonbats these days, it just might fly, especially if they use it as a means of jabbing the current GOP administration as resembling (in their minds) the dreaded Nixon.

When the Levee Breaks

Ryne McClaren has a nice piece on the pork that Federal dollars purchased in Louisiana, when they could have been spent, say, strengthening levees. I especially liked this one:Remember when then-Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge recommended that people stockpile some...

Time To Deal

When morons are starting to shoot at emergency helicopters, it's time to re-think some current policies. And it sounds like Louisiana governor Kathleen Blanco has been doing just that. A DETACHMENT of 300 Arkansas National Guard troops have landed in...

MSM Squawks About Photographing NOLA Dead:

Guarding The Public's SELECTIVE Right to Know

One doesn;t have to look very far to find reps of the MSM crying about FEMA not facilitating the photographing of operations recovering human remains from the shambles. For instance here in the WaPo, and when the CHief checked the NYT OpEds the futility of responding to the veritable truckloads of manure about the post-Katrina situation became immmediately evident.

The real bone of contention the MSM cites, is that to report on the situation, the public must be able to view all the gory details of retrieval of human remains after a week+ in the bilges of flooded New Orleans.

The Chief doesn't agree, but prima facie, it IS an arguable point. IF the point is conceded however, why did the MSM staunchly resist showing the people jumping from the World Trade Center on 9-11? Oh, yeah, that was to prevent offending and/or inflaming viewers with the harsh reality of the face of Islamofascism at work.

What's the difference here? In one case showing the events to the public would have had the practical effect of shoring up the support for the terror-war, and thereby reinforcing the responses of the administration. (Nope, mustn't do THAT!)

In the case of NOLA, the scenes shown would be used to try to club the administration over the Katrina disaster and it's aftermath. (Yes, the public needs to see that!)

Once again, the MSM is showing that it's effective motto should be adapted from it's flagship New York Times slogan "All the news that's fit to print" morphing into a more truthful version: "ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS, WE PRINT!"

Pork Fails to Stop Floodwater; Government Still Not Big Enough

Maybe this is something that the Louisiana voters can ask their delegation about: Army's engineers spent millions on Louisiana projects labeled as pork. Before Hurricane Katrina breached a levee on the New Orleans Industrial Canal, the Army Corps of Engineers...
