Katrina Screw-ups? At state, local levels in NOLA.

Top federal officials left out of loop

State and local officials did not inform top federal officials early on of the deaths and lack of food among hurricane victims in the Superdome or convention center, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said yesterday. Mr. Chertoff said neither he nor Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown was told of the deteriorating situation in New Orleans until Thursday night.
"This is clearly something that was disturbing. It was disturbing to me when I learned about it, which came as a surprise. You know, the very day that this emerged in the press, I was on a video conference with all the officials, including state and local officials. And nobody, none of the state and local officials or anybody else was talking about a convention center," Mr. Chertoff told CNN.

Why should this be a big surprise? The NOLA emergency plans called for using city transit and school buses to help with evacuation. On the occasion however, the city left the buses to get flooded, while people were stranded without transportation. Not much the Feds had to do with THAT! A better evacuation would have avoided many of the rescue problems that were all too present.

Gulf Coast Disaster Beyond Words

Chief nearly rendered speechless

The disaster resulting from Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans & environs, and coastal Mississippi and Alabama is of such a scope that descriptive terminology somehow falls flat in the face of the reality.

As more news comes out, the situation only worsens, at least thus far. Perhaps the description "...of Biblical proportions." is appropriate for once.

Our prayers go out to those affected, and we wish them as speedy a resolution to thier problems as may be possible.

The OTHER aspect of this that renders one speechless - but for a different reason are the attempts of certain libDonks to blame the problem on Bush and other conservatives. What a total crock. The Chief would like to slap 'em up side the head, except for the fact that s--t splatters. RFK Jr., and the others of their ilk on both sides of the Atlantic once and for all need to get a #12 cork installed in their pie holes.

Stop Judicial Tyranny: Jail for Judges!?

Don't like how the court ruled? Sue the judge, group says

The Argus's inimitable Dave Kranz notes an effort to impose some real limitation to what is arguably the unchecked power of the judiciary to do any darned thing that a judge decides to, regardless of plain constitutional and legal language to the contrary.

Calling this effort J.A.I.L. (Judicial Accountability Initiative Law), if one is absolutely convinced that they were the victim of arbitrary judicial abuse by a judge, the law would grant the right to appeal to a special grand jury. If the grand jury agreed, then the judge would be liable for lawsuit. The judge could also be found to be guilty of criminal behavior for failing to uphold the law.

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS SITE as well as THIS ONE TOO! The Chief has been reading "Men in Black" by Mark R. Levin lately, and this may not be a bad idea. Check it out for yourself.
