On This Day In History: Boom
In 74 A.D., Mt. Vesuvius erupted. And if you're interested in catastrophic eruptions I highly recommend Simon Winchester's Krakatoa, a delightful read from my summer reading list....
Hildebrand Vows to Fight On
Washington Post reports:Steve Hildebrand, Daschle's campaign manager, said Thune, who won by two percentage points after losing a Senate race two years before, is likely to have a strong challenger when he seeks reelection in 2010. He's still going to...

No muss, no fuss. Direct application of lethal energy to the target with no need for ammunition. Nice.
If you have an interest in other sorts of advanced projects, the DARPA TTO site (use the PROGRAMS link) describes some of the sorts of things that are coming down the chute. SciFi comes to life - our tax dollars at work, and worth every cent!
