A Conservative Argument for Hate Crime Laws

Whatever else you may say about him, Richard Cohen is an independent minded liberal. In his latest WaPo essay he makes, well, George W. Bush's argument against hate crimes legislation. He focuses on the case of one Nicholas Morse. He...
Just Shut Up And Catch The Dang Ball

Since rejoining the civilized world, i.e. getting cable TV, I have been reminded why I hate ESPN so much. Don't get me wrong. I love sports, and come college football season ESPN will come in very handy. What I can't...
Nothing But Bells and Whistles

A reader passes on this very informative article about the success, or lack thereof, of technology in the classroom. Read the whole thing, as they say. There are some highlights:These lackluster findings were consistent with middle school test results obtained...
Able Baker Info Destroys 9-11 Commission Credibility

A couple of articles covering the disclosure that early info on Mohammed Atta's terrorist activities was ignored repeatedly, firstly by the Bubba Clinton administration, and later by the 9-11 Commission itself.

It's worth noting that the Chief's survey of MSM on-line finds almost no mention of this story from the likes of the NYT, WaPo, etc. Bully for Fox News, and the NY Post - at least THEY are reporting on this, along with the blogosphere, and the line-up of talk radio like Hannity, Savage, Limbaugh, et al. One wonders how long it will be before there is any recognition in the major MSM that there was/is a problem with this.

Based on this, the credibility of the Commission is worth zip, but this should be no surprise with Commissioner Jamie Gore-lick being a major player in the intel breakdown during the Clinton era. The fix is in! No wonder there are calls for a new commission reported by the NY Post.

Dakfest

For those who will be in Mitchell tomorrow, Senator Thune, Senator Johnson, and Representative Herseth will be at Dakotafest tomorrow at 1 p.m. I won't be able to attend due to my job, but if any readers out there happen...

One Long Post On Cindy Sheehan

I have largely ignored the Cindy Sheehan circus because I take it to be just that: a circus. I believe that the phenomenon is a product of a lazy media who, as it has been well noted, get bored when...
Iraq Constitutional Snag?

A couple of items on this one in the WaPo:

Iraqis Fail To Meet Constitution Deadline

Despite Setback, Bush Optimistic on Iraqi Charter

The moonbat left is declaring defeat, and saying that the experiment of democracy in Iraq is failing. The Chief thinks not. To recall some historical perspective it took the USA years to come up with a Consititution after the end of the Revolutionary War.

Neither Rome nor Washington were built in a day - so why should anyone expect a new Baghdad to happen instantly, and without some jostling? Like Bismarck once observed: "People who like sausages and laws shouldn't watch either one being made." Not a bad observation to keep in mind - it might even still apply to us! (Shocking idea, that!)
