You Can Believe As Much of THIS as You Want To!
Democrats vow not to take out anger on Roberts
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat who is expected to help lead his party's opposition to Judge Roberts, called Mr. Bush's recess appointment "shameful and irresponsible" and lamented that the "cloak of secrecy from the White House continues."
That's rich coming from HIM! He STILL hasn't come clean about killing that girl in the car when he drove off the bridge at Chappaquidak (sp?). Last time I looked Bolton didn't have manslaughter to contend with.
"There's little appetite in the Democratic caucus for further abuse of power by the president or stonewalling," said one aide, adding that the party will be even more insistent on information about a Supreme Court nominee than they were about Mr. Bolton.
Let's see now - the administration already said it wouldn't give the Donks all the working papers that they are demanding. So how does this mesh with the bit about not being so obnoxious on the Roberts debate?
Republicans said Democrats left Mr. Bush no choice. "Although I would have preferred an up-or-down Senate confirmation vote on John Bolton ... the president's appointment of Secretary Bolton was necessary to ensure our representation at the United Nations and to provide momentum to the vital process of U.N. reform," said Sen. Richard G. Lugar, Indiana Republican and Foreign Relations chairman. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Tennessee Republican, noted that Mr. Bolton has won majority support from the Senate four times -- although he never reached the 60-vote plateau necessary to break the Democratic filibuster.
Still the filibuster - what about the "new spirit of cooperation from the gang of 14"????
And finally, from Sen. Voinovich:
Sen. George V. Voinovich -- the Ohio RepublicanRINO who broke with his party by saying he couldn't support Mr. Bolton -- said he was disappointed with the recess appointment, but will stand behind the president's decision. "I am truly concerned that a recess appointment will only add to John Bolton's baggage and his lack of credibility with the United Nations," Mr. Voinovich said. "That said, the president has made this decision, and I will do everything in my power to support Mr. Bolton as he takes his new position."
WOW! Talk about an almost perfect weasel statement - a truly masterful job of planting himself firmly on both sides of the fence on this one! This is almost up to Daschle quality!
BEST COMEBACK EVER!
Shamelessly Plagiarized from South Dakota Politics!
This is just TOO choice to pass up, so the Chief is going to take Jaso at SDP up on his invitation to pass this along. If you see it over there, well and good. If you don't look at SDP for some reason (like maybe not being in SD), here it is:
A Soldier tells about an incident in the grocery store he stopped at yesterday, on his way home from the base. He said that ahead of several people in front of him stood a woman dressed in a burkha. He said when she got to the cashier she loudly remarked about the US flag lapel pin the cashier wore on her smock.
The cashier reached up and touched the pin, and said proudly, "Yes, I always wear it and I probably always will."
The woman in the burkha then asked the cashier when she was going to stop bombing her countrymen, explaining that she was Iraqi.
A gentleman standing behind the soldier stepped forward, putting his arm around his shoulders, and nodding towards the soldier, said in a calm and gentle voice to the Iraqi woman: "Lady, hundreds of thousands of men and women like this young man have fought and died so that YOU could stand here, in MY country and accuse a check-out cashier of bombing YOUR countrymen. It is my belief that had you been this outspoken in YOUR own country, we wouldn't need to be there today. But, hey, if you have now learned how to speak out so loudly and clearly, I'll gladly buy you a ticket and pay your way back to Iraq so you can straighten out the mess in YOUR country that you are obviously here in MY country to avoid."
Everyone within hearing distance cheered.
HOO-RAH!

Astronaut to Employ Ingenuity in Repair
The aforementioned threesome of objects are WD-40, to use if something isn't moving and you need for it to move; JB Weld if it's moving and you never want it to move again; and Duct Tape - whose applications are manifold.
Employing the kind of NASA ingenuity seen during Apollo 13, an astronaut prepped for an emergency repair job on Discovery's exterior Wednesday with forceps, scissors and a hacksaw fashioned out of a blade and a little duct tape.
Ya gotta love it!
