Anonymity In the South Dakota Blogosphere

It's certainly been an odd week up in my old South Dakota stomping grounds. First off, it appears that Bob Novak (yeah, that Bob Novak) was/is planning some sort of story on the anti-Thune bloggers up there. This comes hot...
The New Senate

Washington Post:Shackled for months by a familiar brand of Washington gridlock, President Bush and the Republican leaders in Congress last week suddenly found a key. A long-stalled energy bill, an international trade accord and a massive highway appropriations measure all...
Shorter British Policy: Look For Those Who Might Want To Kill Us

How the British are doing it: British Transport Police have been targeting specific ethnic groups for "intelligence-led" stop-and-searches as part of their heightened security measures. BTP Chief Constable Ian Johnston said that his officers would not "waste time searching old...
War College on Never-Ending Politics

PP at South Dakota War College:First off, the campaign against John Thune has yet to end. After Abdnor, and for the most part, up until Thune and Governor Janklow ran for open congressional seats on separate occasions, Republicans had taken...
Just Shoot Me

Clearing up the confusion on the energy bill

I continue to be awed by what can only be sheer disingenuousness or an incredible level of diminished capacity on the part of the embittered former Daschle staffers/bloggers regarding the efforts (or lack thereof) since November of 2003 to pass...

Democrats vow not to take out anger on Roberts

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat who is expected to help lead his party's opposition to Judge Roberts, called Mr. Bush's recess appointment "shameful and irresponsible" and lamented that the "cloak of secrecy from the White House continues."

That's rich coming from HIM! He STILL hasn't come clean about killing that girl in the car when he drove off the bridge at Chappaquidak (sp?). Last time I looked Bolton didn't have manslaughter to contend with.

"There's little appetite in the Democratic caucus for further abuse of power by the president or stonewalling," said one aide, adding that the party will be even more insistent on information about a Supreme Court nominee than they were about Mr. Bolton.

Let's see now - the administration already said it wouldn't give the Donks all the working papers that they are demanding. So how does this mesh with the bit about not being so obnoxious on the Roberts debate?

Republicans said Democrats left Mr. Bush no choice. "Although I would have preferred an up-or-down Senate confirmation vote on John Bolton ... the president's appointment of Secretary Bolton was necessary to ensure our representation at the United Nations and to provide momentum to the vital process of U.N. reform," said Sen. Richard G. Lugar, Indiana Republican and Foreign Relations chairman. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Tennessee Republican, noted that Mr. Bolton has won majority support from the Senate four times -- although he never reached the 60-vote plateau necessary to break the Democratic filibuster.

Still the filibuster - what about the "new spirit of cooperation from the gang of 14"????

And finally, from Sen. Voinovich:

Sen. George V. Voinovich -- the Ohio RepublicanRINO who broke with his party by saying he couldn't support Mr. Bolton -- said he was disappointed with the recess appointment, but will stand behind the president's decision. "I am truly concerned that a recess appointment will only add to John Bolton's baggage and his lack of credibility with the United Nations," Mr. Voinovich said. "That said, the president has made this decision, and I will do everything in my power to support Mr. Bolton as he takes his new position."

WOW! Talk about an almost perfect weasel statement - a truly masterful job of planting himself firmly on both sides of the fence on this one! This is almost up to Daschle quality!

Reuters promotes Democrat lie
