Unions show Disunion

Unions to quit AFL-CIO

Ooops. There goes about a third of the AFL-CIO riding off into the sunset. The unions walking away are upset because the AFL-CIO seems to be emphasizing political stuff to the detriment of building the union movement.

Imagine that!

Tough Stance on Terror to be maintained

British stand by 'shoot to kill'

In a commendable show of determination, the Brits have restated their tough "shoot to kill" policy in the interest of preventing more successful terrorist attacks. While it is of course regretable that an innocent man was gunned down - it has to be conceded that he was not acting in a confidence inspiring manner at the time of his death. Rather than risk the execution of another train car full of Londoners, the police took him down with extreme prejudice.

Police and the government said yesterday they will not back away from a tough new "shoot-to-kill" policy when pursuing suspected terrorists or suicide bombers, despite the death on Friday of an innocent Brazilian who was shot after fleeing police.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair said more shootings could be expected.

The determination comes with the admission that yes, a mistake occurred, but that the police acted properly, and would continue to act accordingly under similar circumstances.

Leading Cabinet minister Peter Hain said earlier that police have the government's "full support" and that police officers would keep the authority to use lethal force "when there is danger to their own lives or to lives of the public."
"We are standing absolutely steely firm," he said. "I think the terrorists understand very clearly that we have a government that will not flinch and will hunt them down and root them out."

Score one against moonbat P.C. drivel!

Meanwhile, the investigation over there continues:

Authorities also announced that police had arrested a man Saturday night "on suspicion of the commission, investigation or preparation of acts of terrorism."

The Chief hopes that they keep up the good work.
