Commentary: Not likely!

Terrorism by definition is violence with a political purpose. Terrorists are terrorists not by choice but by desperation. They kill men, women and children indiscriminately because they think there's no other way to advance their cause. Propaganda and politics have failed them. They lack armies or economic power. There have been many terrorist campaigns throughout history. But most have failed to achieve their goals. Slaughtering civilians rarely advances political causes.

The point is made here that the only time that irregular forces have achieved any success is after they have morphed themselves into something else - something that is much more than a terrorist movement - like a conventionalized military power, a mass popular movement, a conventional political party, or if they successfully totally decapitate the existing governmental structure. None of these are in the cards for Iraq, ergo, the outlook for ultimeate success of the Islamofascist terrs there is dim.
